Back Country Delight

Date: February 8, 2010
I own two Voile split boards and am happy with both. One is a few years old at 173 cm and the newest model, the mojo is 171 cm. Both boards perform fantastically well on a variety of conditions. I have used them numerous times in Roger's Pass, various resorts and in Eastern Quebec in the Chic Choc mountains of Gaspe. The cap construction is holding up with no real issues aside from the normal wear and tear expected in back country pursuits. The skins are bomb proof and perform in most conditions but when they do fail on icy terrain the cramp-ons are worth every penny. Adding cramp-ons is effortless and makes uphill approaches so much easier on ice then with skins alone. Anyone who wants to pursue back country on a snowboard should go out just once on snow shoes, carrying your board on your back. After that experience you will want to buy and will greatly appreciate the thought process that went into creating the Voile split board. It just makes sense and you will love it!
It would be nice if MEC sold Prior splits as they are also great boards. FYI, Prior use Voile hardware.
Pros: Rugged, Simple, Good Value, Reliable
Cons: Expensive, slightly heavy (but much easier then snow shoes)

Rippin the splits

Date: February 5, 2010
purchased a 171, I am 6'3 190pds. Went on a glacier traverse with this mojo. Make sure you are equally or more fit than your fellow alpine skiers as you need a few quick minutes to split or reconnect your board. I was soft bootin it with some flow bindings, make sure you have some bindings you can exit fast if you cant get out of an avi path. Also get some extra screws, an extra plate pin and some twine JIC.
Back to the mojo, I had a great time, took a few extra minutes from time to time but I am in pretty good shape so had no problem keeping up and was usually staying ahead of the group while skinning or on the transition. On the downhill ride portion, the splits excel, you cannot beat a split board no matter what any skier says, simple physics of the surface area and your stance make for a phenomenal ride down. The front and back edges were carving away wind crust as I leaned into the mountain and laid some huge roosts while the skiers were having a tough time with their powder skis. Then the powder surf portions were even better. I really could not tell the mojo was actually a split board when connected, it was solid and aggressive on the way down.
I have not ridden any other splits but the mojo exceeded my expectations. Nice and light, skins were great, hardware performed solid, board was split and connected with ease and efficiency.
Hopefully the splits get some solid tech advances over the next many years, I will reload in say 5 years. MEC get some Prior's in your catalog as well to compare.
Best part: Skip the ski hills altogether with the mojo and go fresh on each decent.
Pros: Lightweight, Simple, Good Value, Reliable, no more lift lines

Best Split Yet

Date: November 15, 2009
I've abused my Mojo for 2 years now and it's still in great shape. I haven't found any weakness with the cap construction; it's bulletproof (the previous reviewer obviously doesn't own a Mojo!). This board ride so well, Voilé should sell them as a non-split version too! And you can't find a better priced new splitboard. It's light enough and very versatile. I absoluetly love my Mojo. I'm 5'10" and ride a 166 with Spark binding. That's good stuff!
Pros: Rugged, Lightweight, Good Value, Reliable

Not worth the money.

Date: October 25, 2009
Voile has been making split boards for a good while now but technically are way behind! Cap construction is this boards greatest weakness. True it reduces weight therefore detrimenting strength. One of the most important aspect in backcountry snowboarding is strength which is tied to reliability. Cap construction is weak and does not hold up to impacts and as for holding a solid line I strongly disagree with the marketing jive! The price isn't right with this stick either. If you want to pay this much you'd be much better off with Prior snowboards. Strong construction and a great 'snowboarding' company!
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Expensive, Unreliable, cap construction, bad use of marketing lingo

Voile-USA side of story.
Here at Voile-USA, we respect Brent Lamb's opinion. But in our experience over the last 2 1/2 years with thousands of Mojos on the market, we have not see any more warranties than when we offered sidewall constructed boards. Our cap construction has proven very reliable. We back up the Mojo splitboard with a 2 year warranty. We use very high quality and expensive materials. I assure you it is a well made product. Please contact us directly if you have had a bad experience with a Voile Mojo splitboard.
