As others have mentioned this peg works well in both snow and sand. I use a combination of both the short and long versions of this peg beach camping. They hold well, are light and nest together when stored.
Tip: when using in fine sand attach a loop of cord through the top hole. This makes them easy to remove and locate.
Pros: Lightweight, Good Value, Reliable

Great for soft terrain

These pegs give excellent holding power in soft ground/sand & snow. They are also surprisingly light given their size. They fit nicely alongside each other to keep the total bulkiness of a set to a reasonable minimum. If they are used for their intended purpose, you will be very happy with them (i.e. don't drive them into rocks).

These are excellent pegs and absolutely necessary for peg holding power in snow or sand. Your local MEC may also carry these in a longer length, which are the ones I purchased - call them and ask.
The holes along the length of the peg 'blade' serve two purposes: they lighten the peg, and allow snow to freeze through it for extra holding power. In fine sand you can poke twigs through the holes and bury the peg to make a 'sand anchor'.
Yes, they will crumple if you try and pound them into hard ground or rocks - but used with care and common sense these are an excellent peg design.
Their only downside is that they are quite bulky, however they stack reasonable well and can be strapped to the outside of your pack or the long ones can actually help stiffen the frame inside.
Pros: Excellent Holding Power, Sturdy, Easy To Set Up, Lightweight
Cons: Not For Hard Ground, Bulky

Not for sand

Bought these to hold tent in the sand, but if you hit a hidden rock they will crumple. Good product for snow though!
